Brewery Supervisor – Winston-Salem, NC

Position Summary: Brewing Supervisor assists the Head Brewer in the oversight of brewery operations and staff. The employee is responsible for the safe, efficient and quality execution of all standard operation procedures for the brewing department.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Assists Head Brewer in the supervision and oversight of all brewery operations
  • Oversees and develops training of all brewery staff and continue to educate and develop brewery team
  • Serves as the liaison between the Head Brewer, Packaging Manager, and Shipping Manager to maintain efficient and timely production
  • Serves as a conduit for information between brewery staff and Inventory Manager/Head Brewer regarding any inventory or other brewery issues
  • Work with Head Brewer to prioritize and coordinate production team activities
  • Be an advocate for, mentor and coach for production team members
  • Oversees day-to-day supervision of the staff, including the following:
    • Provides leadership, direction, and focus.
    • Maintains positive employee morale
    • Addresses employee issues (tardiness, absenteeism, discipline, etc.)
    • Manages hours for staff and adjust schedule as needed to maintain PT at 30 and FT at 40 unless overtime is approved
    • Enforces Employee Handbook policies, as needed
  • Oversees employee production training and development including the following:
    • Focuses on employee’s technique improvement
    • Focuses on employee development of understanding of processes
    • Improves employee’s efficiencies in time, beer, and raw materials
  • Brings new ideas involving improvements in time management, beer production, beer quality, and raw material handling to the attention of the attention of the Head Brewer
  • Work with maintenance department to prioritize and schedule work around production to minimize/eliminate downtime
  • Create and or adapt standard operating procedures as necessary to ensure changes are clearly understood and executed by all staff
  • Supervises cleanliness and sanitation of all equipment, tanks, and work areas to maintain consistent beer quality. Ensure work is done in a sanitary and safe manner and meets Foothills Brewing Co standards
  • Ensures safety of brewery staff and operations. Serves as the primary contact to the Safety Consultant
  • Coordinates with lab staff regarding daily beer monitoring, manage purge, dry hop, temperature changes, and carbonation level on Bright tanks
  • Ability to run brew house at both breweries, cellar work, packaging equipment
  • Communicate effectively with team in a timely fashion, via text, phone, email, etc.
  • First responder (on and off shift) to production issues/inquires and notify management as necessary
  • Arrive to each shift on time with a positive attitude and willingness to work hard
  • Other duties as required

Position Qualifications:
Required

  • At least five years of brewing experience
  • Valid drivers’ license
  • Wholesale license
  • Strong oral and written communicate skills
  • High school diploma or equivalent

Preferred

  • Prior supervisory experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in applicable science

  • Must have depth perception and be able to distinguish basic colors
  • Exposure to grain dust for prolonged periods
  • Exposure to steamy wet spent grain

Visual/Audible Acuity Requirements

  • Must be able to see and hear clearly
  • Must be able to see less than 20” away and a distance of more than 20 feet
  • Must have use of side vision
  • Must be able to read and distinguish small print.
